artist statement

I approach painting by merging the intellectual and emotional aspects of myself to construct non-linear narratives. My work delves into themes such as human fragility, solitude, duality, technology, beauty and death.  Growing up in a Mexican-American family of artists and musicians in the midwest, the memories of our many journeys through the Mexican countryside in our grand Pontiac convertible left indelible, profound memories. The vibrant attire, religious symbolism and indigenous artwork fueled my young imagination. These early impressions continue to shape the vocabulary I use in my paintings. My objective is to create a visual landscape that encompasses both philosophical and spiritual dimensions, where struggle and strength can coexist.
